Would you recommend your internship to a friend?

Yes. My experience in AZ gave me great exposure to the pharmaceutical industry and to an office-based working environment in general. Interning in a well-known multinational company like AZ also gives your CV a significant upperhand.

What were you looking to gain from your experience?

Working experience from the Bioscience industry in Malaysia and expanding my network in this community.

What attracted you to the company you interned with?

AstraZeneca attracted me because it is a well-known multinational company based in the UK, and as someone who aims to secure a job in the UK after graduation, I think my experience in AZ will give me an upperhand.

What was a typical working day like?

Mostly facing my laptop and attending meetings/journal clubs/trainings a couple of times a week.

What did you enjoy about your internship?

The working environment was great, everyone was friendly and welcoming.

What was the most challenging part?

Trying to understand the extreme detail of scientific data of the products was very challenging as many scientific terms and acronyms were used. At the beginning of my internship, I used to walk out of meetings not understanding a single detail of the discussion. But over time, my understanding gradually increased and it became easier to keep track of conversations among colleagues.

How did the experience benefit your career?

This internship gave me training on how to work in a professional setting and also solidifying my goal of starting a career in the Bioscience field.

What is one advice that you would give to others who are planning to do an internship?

Don't be afraid to speak out and don't let the feeling of inferiority as an intern get to you. When in doubt, ask! :)
