ROOTS & ROUTE 2026

On July 5th, Malaysian Bioscience Scholars (MBIOS), alongside MMU Faculty of Applied Communications, officially hosted Roots & Route 2026, our purpose-led 5KM charity fun run!

Roots & Route 2026 marks a historic milestone as MBIOS’ first-ever physical event. After years of connecting our global bioscience community through screens, this event brought our network together in the real world for a meaningful cause. We invited students, bioscience enthusiasts, and the public to lace up their running shoes for a crucial cause of raising cancer awareness and funding for local research in Malaysia.

Our Message Behind Roots & Route

Though seemingly simple, “Roots & Route” carry a deeper definition that inspires the concept of this charity run: to understand the “Roots” of cancer biologically through cancer awareness initiatives, while paving the “Route” to a cure by funding cancer research.

We hope that by hosting this energetic and hopeful morning run, we will be able to project the endurance, resilience and unity needed in the global race against cancer.

Event Highlights

From early dawn, Dewan Tun Canselor welcomed hundreds of participants ranging from energetic high schoolers and college students utilizing their MBIOS discounts, to corporate runners and families running in solidarity for loved ones.

Throughout the entire 5KM route around the scenic Cyberjaya campus, our hardworking and dedicated volunteers at each water station cheered on and kept the spirits up to motivate runners through to the finish line.

Beyond the run, the event successfully served as a platform connecting public advocacy with academic purpose, through booths set up by Cancer Research Malaysia featuring education on breast cancer symptoms, oral cancer screening, and genetic screening services.

A Massive Thank You!

An event of this scale would not have been possible without the dedication of our collaborative partners at MMU Faculty of Applied Communication, our MBIOS directors and associates, our generous corporate sponsors, and most importantly, YOU, our runners.

Thank you for showing up to support those battling the arduous fight against cancer and making our very first physical event a success.  We look forward to hosting more impactful events in the future that unite youth and bioscience to collaborate on a route to a healthier future.
